Women in Forestry is the first in a series of hands-on, one-day workshops for women with an interest in woodland management and will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

The workshop is funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and organized by the Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute.

Sessions will include navigation in the woods, common plant and tree identification, how to measure trees, and choosing which trees to leave and which to take. Workshop leaders will include several of Nova Scotia’s most respected and experienced foresters.

“Whether you’re a female woodlot owner, an aspiring forester, or simply looking to learn more about forests and their management, this workshop may be for you,” said Jane Barker, one of the organizers.

Cost is $20 and participants should bring their own brown bag lunch. Registration is required and space is limited. To reserve a place contact amy.berry@merseytobeatic.ca or call 902-682-2371.
