International Wood Industries has revealed plans for a $145-million sawmill facility located in Bonfield, Ont.

The development plan consists of a sawmill, three drying kilns, a planer mill, molding mill, and CNC facilities, in addition to ancillary buildings in support of the main processing plants. An administrative office and employee cafeteria are to be included. Total budget for the project is forecast at $145 million dollars. IWI has entered into a letter of intent with private sector funding partners for the development costs.

This company is not related to a U.S. company of the same name, International Wood Industries, a subsidiary of Universal Forest Products.

A media release from IWI notes that the company’s principals have experience in the forest products industry, and have operated a sawmill in Europe.

The sawmill project is currently in the approvals stage. The company hopes to begin construction in Oct. 2017 and start up in January 2019. Projected employment once the mill is operational is 87 people.

A website for International Wood Industries is currently under construction. In the meantime, enquiries can be directed to the Mattawa-Bonfield Economic Development Corporation (MBEDC) at director@mbedc.ca.
