FSC recognizes forest industry champions

BOSTON – One Canadian forester and a green building project are among the winners of the Forest Stewardship Council’s 2017 FSC Leadership Awards.

Christopher McDonell received honors “for 20 years of work shaping responsible forest management in Canada.” McDonell is currently employed at Tembec and was an FSC Canada board member for several years.

The Bill Fisch Forest Stewardship and Education Centre, located near Toronto and owned by the Regional Municipality of York, won an award using 100 percent FSC-certified wood in its construction. The architect for this LEED Platinum project was DIALOG        .

“We were astounded by the accomplishments of our award winners this year,” said Corey Brinkema, president of the Forest Stewardship Council US. “By building the market for FSC products, the award winners show we can conserve forests, even as we use forest products in our daily lives,” he added.
