The Provincial Government has provided $700,000 for a study of BC's bio-economy. The investment has been made on the advice of the government's Bio-Economy Committee formed last July.
Jobs Minister Pat Bell says the world's largest, non-profit forest research institute will carry out the study.
"The real key now will be to work out the details and see what the real opportunities are, particularly in the short to mid-term. That work will be done by FP Innovations in connection with the industry across British Columbia. I'm looking forward to receiving that work in the next year."
FP Innovations will help industry identify cost-effective fibre available for new projects. The research institute will also assess opportunities for BC Interior mills to add bio-products to their operations.
Another goal will be to determine how trucks used in the forest industry can reduce emissions.
